marjaana seilonen

Marjaana Seilonen is the founder of The Traveling Twiga, a travel company that specializes is creating customized and extraordinarily meaningful travel experiences to cherish and remember over a lifetime.

The Traveling Twiga is unlike any other travel service in South Orange County.   Marjaana is not only your consummate booking agent, but she is also your personal destination guide.   She can offer a journey that impacts not only you, but also, potentially, the people you encounter while abroad. Her aim is to make your adventure so special that when you return home, you will still be inspired and dreaming about your experiences.

Africa is Marjaana’s big, 13+ year passion. The continent and its people represent the very reason she changed careers from 20+ years in health care management to travel.  As a founding member and president of a non-profit organization, OWI --- Outreach to the World, Inc. (www.outreachtotheworld.org), Marjaana has worked on a whole village project in rural Kenya since 2004.  Being passionate about missionary, humanitarian & conservation efforts, and having travelled to Africa over 20 times, Marjaana offers remarkable individual and group volunteer opportunities. She balances the human simplicity of those volunteer hours with incredible safaris, luxury resort stays and budget -friendly excursions.

It was for the love of Africa, that Marjaana named her travel company Twiga which is “Giraffe” in the Swahili language spoken widely in East Africa. 

Europe is another favorite destination of Marjaana’s.  It’s forever rich in heritage, architecture, culture, extraordinary food and much excellent wine!  

The South Pacific islands, Australia and New Zealand have become Marjaana’s new destination specialties. She developed close and personal native contacts with whom she now works in that region.  She has never counted on internet reviews or glossy sales brochures that promote “tourist traps”.   Rather, she requires “insider” information about the unique, interesting and fun aspects of each destination.  Such information is typically known only to the people who reside there.  Marjaana’s goal is to share her discovery and research with those clients who truly seek a memorable adventure.
